Laraaji
Born Edward Larry Gordon in Philadelphia in 1943, Laraaji is a visionary musician and spiritual guide whose prolific output has made him a central figure in ambient and new age music. His long, meditative soundscapes are built from electronically modified zither, hammered dulcimer, kalimba, synthesizers, and voice, often enriched with natural sounds.
After studying music and theater at Howard University and pursuing acting in New York, a turn toward Eastern mysticism led him to electrify a pawnshop zither and develop the radiant style that caught Brian Eno’s attention in Washington Square Park in the late 1970s. Their resulting collaboration, Ambient 3: Day of Radiance (1980), became one of the defining works of the genre.
Laraaji has since released dozens of albums, from early home-recorded meditation tapes to expansive collaborations with Bill Laswell, Audio Active, and Blues Control. Beyond performance, he is known worldwide for conducting Laughter Meditation workshops, bringing joy and transcendence to communities around the globe.
Ana Roxanne
Ana Roxanne is a New York-based composer whose work exists in the interzone of electric meditation, dream pop, and ambient songcraft. Raised in the Catholic choral tradition and inspired by R&B divas of the 1980s and ’90s, she creates a uniquely intuitive sonic language that is both atmospheric and ancient. Her 2015 self-released EP was reissued by Leaving Records, and her acclaimed debut full-length, Because of a Flower (Kranky, 2020), established her as a vital new voice in contemporary ambient music.
