PASTORAL CARE | THE RBC FUN | COOKING FOR ST. GABE’S

While these projects are based out of St. Luke & the Epiphany church, their impact reaches far beyond the walls of the church. Our mission is to help support our congregation, community, and the city of Philadelphia!

VOTE THAT JAWN

Here is just one of the inspiring results of the parish’s fiscal sponsorship of #VoteThatJawn, a small nonprofit out of UPenn formed by writer and activist Lorene Cary, to engage high school and college interns to register newly eligible and other young voters in Philadelphia.

The website www.SafeKidsStories.com came out of Cary’s teaching at UPenn, and includes a great feature about teaching Haitian history at St. James School. #VoteThatJawn emerged from that platform, and in 2018 helped boost 18-year-old registration in Philadelphia more than 150%

Pastoral Care Team

The Pastoral Care Team's goal is to support individuals in the parish community who need assistance with some of the activities of daily living. The wish is to do this in a way that is respectful of each person's particular weaknesses and strengths, knowing the Pastoral care Team offers a service of support that is non-medical and non-professional.

The Team prays for the parish, especially those in special need, because of some crisis, illness, bereavement or other circumstance. The Team also provides non-medical assistance to the parishioner in many facets of his or her daily life, which may include daily needs such as laundry, letter writing, visits to the doctor, light meal preparation, telephoning, grocery shopping and taking care of pets. The Team also does home and hospital visitations. Please email Tom McCoy for more information about this ministry or if you know of a need within the parish. mccoy.thomasm@gmail.com

The Prayer Circle

The Prayer Circle is an ongoing, but separate ministry within the Pastoral Care program. The thirty members of the Prayer Circle commit to daily prayers in response to requests made by individuals for themselves or for others. The confidential prayer list is updated regularly and on average includes more than a dozen individuals.  Our parish community is both enlarged and enriched by those for whom prayers are offered. Please email John Erickson for more information about this ministry or if you have a prayer request.  johnherickson@verizon.net

The Rodger C. Broadley Community Fund

The R.C.B. Community Fund ( previously known as the Epiphany Community Initiative) provides small grants to local non-profits with a focus on social justice, wellness, and children. This initiative was born out of the 2016 capital campaign and re-named the Rodger C. Broadly Community Fund in 2020. We renamed this community initiative project in honor of our previous rector, who retired after 40 years of serving with our congregation. The fund is reaching more non-profits with every generous donation. Please contact the Church Office if you would like to get involved or make a contribution to the fund.
